Visit the Faculty III Process Sciences of TU Berlin
Date: 2015.03.09
Location: Headquarter of the Faculty III Process Sciences of Technischen Universität Berlin - Berlin Germany
On 9th March 2015 Mr. Zhanyi Fu (Vice-President of IRE) and Mr. Lei Jiang (Secretary-general) as representative of the International Renewable Energy e.V. (IRE) visited the Faculty III Process Sciences of Technischen Universität Berlin. Mr. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Felix Ziegler (Dean of the Faculty III) and Mr. Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Günter Wozny (Head of the subject of dynamics and operation of technical systems) greeted us and discussed with us.
The Faculty III Process Sciences presents a nationally and internationally unique educational and research opportunity in the field of process-oriented disciplines. Its unique feature is the close connection between science and engineering. The focus of research and teaching of the faculty III are processes and process to convert materials and energy through physical, chemical and biological sequences. Fields of application are, for example, production and waste disposal facilities for chemical goods, materials, biotechnology products, fuels, food and feed as well as environmental media or even consumer goods and energy conversion systems.
The subject of dynamics and operation of technical systems has been set up in 1993 at the Technische Universität Berlin. The working area of the subject includes the development and arrangement system-technical basics of stationary and dynamic process simulation as well as analysis, modeling and optimization of complex process engineering systems with large structural variety and high number of elements. Special attention is the holistic view of basic scientific operations, the micro and macro processes, the process design and the plant-specific implementation. Furthermore, the research and teaching fields include the development and testing of high-performance process-control concepts by combining knowledge of the physical, chemical and biological bases with engineering and process engineering procedures.
At the meeting, Mr. Prof. Felix Ziegler introduced us the Faculty III Process Sciences of TU Berlin and presented us a couple of projects of Faculty III, e.g. the waste heat of the engine is used as drive energy for cooling the intake air and compressing the intake air, so that the combustion efficiency is improved; New heat pump without compressor has 10 times higher COP values. The industrial waste heat is used as the driving energy for the new heat pump; Industrial waste heat is used as a driving energy for district heating.
Mr. Prof. Günter Wozny introduced us the subject of dynamics and operation of technical systems and presented us the findings of research, e.g. CO2 is used as a media for heat pump, in order to improve the COP values; Optimization of large industrial plants.
Mr. Zhanyi Fu said that he will actively promote the cooperation between the Faculty III Process Sciences of Technischen Universität Berlin and Chinese companies. He wants to also offer internships for German students in China and set up "Zhanyi- Scholarship" for students of the Faculty III Process Sciences of Technischen Universität Berlin.
After the meeting we visited with Mr. Prof. Felix Ziegler and Mr. Prof. Günter Wozny their laboratory buildings together.
Both sides agreed that through the cooperation of the Gesellschaft von Freunden der Technischen Universität Berlin e.V. and the International Renewable Energy e.V. (IRE) will push ahead the building of bridges between science and industry together.
