According to the statement by German federal economics minister Mr. Sigmar Gabriel, the time of "puppy protection" for renewable energy is over. Renewable energy is now taking over the role of fossil fuels as "Hounds". The government continues to pursue expansion target by 2020 from biomass, solar, wind, and hydropower in electricity production to a level of around 40 percent. So far, the share in Germany is 33 percent. Mr. Sigmar Gabriel announced that the remuneration in the renewable energy law will take place on the market in the future and no longer be statistically determined.
For the largest power utilities RWE AG and E.ON AG energy transition means a radical reconstruction and implies the creation of new business models, because in the old business is no more money. As a model example of the RWE presented its innovative strength in a project for digitization. In the future, all technicians will be equipped with tablet PCs, which will be developed with Apple and IBM together. This is marketed as a new business model. On the Handelsblatt conference RWE received the IT Innovation Award.
Besides the major energy companies, some young start-ups, who want to shake up the market, have also cavorted on stage. Among them, for example, the company Discovergy, who brings smart metering direct to households and provides clients the transparency in electricity consumption. Furthermore the Venios GmbH as another start-up provides also the transparency to utilities or system operators in the electricity grid, in which they determine with its innovative software "Venios Energy Solutions" the network conditions on production, supply and consumption at any time at any point and can also simulate for the future.
In direct talks with decision-makers from politics and industry, Mr. Dr.-Ing. Robert Lorenz discussed current trends in the energy sector. Especially in view of the environmental situation in China, renewable Energy is undoubtedly one of the best solutions. For this purpose, an intensive exchange between the two countries is necessary as soon as possible to employ the latest technologies where they are needed. Mr. Dr.-Ing. Robert Lorenz discussed this topic with German federal environment minister Ms. Dr. Barbara Hendricks at the meeting with her.
